Wagoner County announces a new economic development brand while a local manufacturer’s job growth is supported by the State of Oklahoma

April 1, 2024 …The Board of County Commissioners with the Wagoner County Economic Development Authority in partnership with municipality stakeholders, is proud to announce the launch of “One Wagoner County,” an ambitious economic development effort aimed at attracting and nurturing businesses within the county.

With a strategic focus on fostering growth, and innovation, One Wagoner County represents a collaborative approach to economic development that leverages the strengths and resources of the entire county. This initiative is designed to create a thriving business environment that promotes job creation, investment, and long-term prosperity for residents and businesses alike.

“We are excited to launch One Wagoner County and embark on this collective journey toward development collaboration with statewide partners and county municipalities,” said Darla Heller, Economic Development Director, Wagoner County. “By working together and leveraging our strengths, we can unlock new opportunities, drive innovation, and create a vibrant economy that benefits everyone in our community.”

North American Air Exchanger (NAAX) is one beneficiary of this approach signaled by their approval into the Oklahoma Quality Jobs Program. The manufacturer of heat exchangers moved to Wagoner in 2023 purchasing a vacant industrial property. The company received assistance with renovation from the Wagoner County Economic Development Authority as well as The City of Wagoner Economic Development Authority.

“We have undertaken a rapid growth strategy and are pleased to partner with Oklahoma in being approved for the Quality Jobs Incentive,” said Rusty Kight, Owner. “Our plans include reaching 100 new jobs with an average wage of over $55,000. Our growth is exemplified by strong partnerships on a city, county and state level.”

“This award not only recognizes excellence in job creation but also celebrates the commitment of businesses to fostering quality employment opportunities in our community,” said Dalton Self, Wagoner Mayor.

“One Wagoner County is really a description of the work of our economic development department staff and their ability to collaborate with our cities and towns, who have limited resources, to ensure businesses in the county have the tools they need to grow,” said Tim Kelley, Chair of Wagoner County Board of Commissioners. “The board has a goal to see that Wagoner County is positioned for new business growth as well.”

About the Oklahoma Quality Jobs Program

Oklahoma’s Small Employer Quality Jobs Program business incentive gives qualifying enrolled companies quarterly cash rebates, of up to five percent of newly created taxable payroll, for up to 7 years. Currently, the Small Employer Quality Jobs Program has enrolled over 125 companies which have received over $9.2 million in wage rebates.

The program, targeted at manufacturers and certain service companies has proven to be a valuable asset to small businesses in Oklahoma, the state’s primary job creation sector. A fully executed contract with the Department of Commerce must be in place before any new jobs can be included in the new taxable payroll.
